Our Team

Robert Armstrong Jnr- Managing Director

Robert is the most Senior member of the Armstrong Surfacing Team.

Robert was born into the Road Surfacing Industry and is the 4th generation to take over the family Surfacing business, alongside his brother Richard. From as early as 13 years of age Robert could be seen amongst the Tar Workers and Lorries in the yard- his interest in Tarmac far outweighed his interest in schoolbooks and studying.

He began his working life as a wheelbarrow man, learned the skill of raking tar, and from there progressed to driving the roller and setting levels on the Tar Machine. Robert has shown from a very early age his natural ability to problem solve, organise work, and manage and lead a team. He is also known for his exceptional customer service.

At the age of 21 Robert stepped into his current role as Managing Director, and since that time has been the driving force behind the Armstrong Surfacing company. He has worked towards growing and strengthening current customer/supplier relations and developing new opportunities in both Northern Ireland and the South of Ireland.

Richard Armstrong- Managing Director

Richard was born into the Road Surfacing Industry and from very early on showed a keen interest in machinery and excavator work. He is our lead heavy machinery man and is a specialist in the 360* excavator and bulldozer.

As Contracts Manager, Richard manages all our civil engineering projects, setting out jobs, levels, kerbing and drainage, as well as driving the Tar Spreader. Richard mentors and works closely with our Tar Team on a daily basis and his experience and ability to transform a green field site into a carpark or driveway is second to none, with a fantastic eye for detail.

Richard heads up our Measuring/Pricing Team, he meets with new customers to view their jobs and recommend the best options and materials needed for the work in hand.

He is happiest when sitting behind the controls of any large machine or vintage lorry!

Kevin Donaghy- Surfacing Engineer and Sales Manager

Susie Baxer- Accounts

Susie joined our team in March 2022.  She studied Business after leaving school and then travelled in Australia before spending 12 years building a career in the motor industry.  She started out as a Customer Advisor and progressed to Office Manager of 3 busy departments. Her skills and experience are rooted in bookkeeping, customer service, problem solving and general administration. Keen to learn a new set of skills in a different industry; she came to us after deciding to reduce her working hours, level out the work/life balance and spend more time with her kids. Since joining us she has enjoyed becoming part of the Armstrong Surfacing family and loves the learning curve that comes with working in the construction industry. Susie loves to bring positivity and a helping hand to the office. She likes to live by two mottos; “Every day is a school day” and “Team work makes the dream work"
